Hello!
So, there is this group I joined on whatsapp. It’s a group well..comprised of people who I guess love reading because there is the #100bookschallenge as the group name. The target as you can guess is to read 100 books this year ! So far , I don’t know how many books I’ve read but should I continue with the same pace I don’t think I’ll reach 100… because well school happens and you have to read your course work ….but well goals some year to come.
Anyway , sometime back a friend of mine blessed me with several books. ( Thank you God for such friends !! ) I honestly get so thrilled when someone shares a book with me. (In case you thought food is the only way to my heart…know now that books can get you a place as well).
One of the books shared is titled “On Becoming ” and it’s by Toke Makinwa and I’m going to do a little review on it.
This book is indeed something. You know, there is always something about someone who writes about their own personal experiences. It’s like someone opening the doors of their life; letting you relive some of those moments. Their vulnerability in writing just expresses so much personality. There is really no struggle in evoking emotions out of the reader as the writing has already delved into details and the intricacies of the subject matter. This book, believe me when I tell you depicts this so clearly. It really gets you to a point of being all up close and personal with the author
A little bit about the author. …….
She is a Nigerian radio personality, TV host, vlogger …..just to mention a few titles attached to her. There was however a scandal that arose concerning her personal life and the book was birthed because of that . To shed light and also to actually share the truth about what really happened, more so to do with her marriage.
In writing , she begins each chapter with a relevant quote. Here is an example.
Chapter 4 : Growing Pains โDeath leaves a heartache no one can heal; love leaves a memory no one can steal.โ โ From an Irish headstone.

This is book is indeed a journey. A journey of her self discovering. A journey of becoming for the author…
We may at one point or another be in a journey. On becoming better people, becoming kinder to ourselves, becoming successful..becoming this, becoming that, becoming becoming and becoming some more. It helps at times to see that no matter how hard the journey, you can still become. This book will show that.
If you more reason to read this book. The excerpt below is for you….
it’s adapted from the book’s prologue.
Finally, this book is dedicated to anyone out there who has been through the storm and is still standing, pressed but not totally crushed, to all the people who are on the journey to Become. It is my prayer that my lifeโs experiences and lessons will motivate and inspire someone to take a chance.
The Purpose is far greater than the PainKeep Striving
If you are interested in reading the book, tell me. I have it in PDF format and I can share it with you ๐.
Do have yourselves a great week guys.
I hope you BECOME who you want to be.
See you on Friday
Take care !
Try to make at least one person happy every day. If you cannot do a kind deed, speak a kind word. If you cannot speak a kind word, think a kind thought. Count up, if you can, the treasure of happiness that you would dispense in a week, in a year, in a lifetime!
